MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Would you consider joining a team of men to help build a house for a family in need?
WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?
In 2016 a team of men travelled to South Africa to build a house. There were people with backgrounds in building and construction, and some with a bit of DIY experience and others with a willingness to get stuck in. Ages ranged from 20's to 70's. The project was to help finish a simple two-room, tin-roof house with no plumbing or electricity for a single-mother and her five children. The following year, feeling a little more ambitious, the team took on the challenge of building a similar house, but from foundations up - and finished it in two weeks. The next three years saw the team build houses with two and three rooms in the two weeks, providing safe, secure housing for families with 19 children between them. 2020 will be the fifth project we've worked on and we're looking for some more blokes to join us.
It's usually an international team, different ages and backgrounds. Steve and some of the team are part of Youth With A Mission, an international Christian mission organisation, some have church and faith backgrounds, others don't. All are welcome. There's an application form to complete and we'll ask for one reference too.

BUILDING A HOUSE
How did this project come about..?
Many of us live busy lives with demands on us from all sides - family responsibilities, work deadlines, things to plan and often little to show for it at the end of the day, or week, or year!
In 2016 Steve Bishop, who started this project, came to the conclusion that he wanted to have something to show for his efforts, something measurable and visible. Steve looked to do something that would actually make a difference somewhere. "Building these houses in South Africa, partnering with Ten Thousand Homes has given me something to look forward to each year. Friendships with people halfway round the world, a sense of satisfaction at a building finished each year and more than that, I know my efforts have changed a situation for a family who needed it."

YOUTH WITH A MISSION
Home is where the heart is
Youth With A Mission (YWAM) is an international, Christian mission movement. At the heart of what we do is a desire to see the transformation of people and places, a realignment with God's heart of love for a world in need and the people in it.
Partnering with Ten Thousand Homes in White River, Mpumalanga, we offer some man-power to assist with the community impact their work and service is having in this part of South Africa. The local connections Ten Thousand Homes has with local churches and community leaders opens the way for partnership, the result of this project being a house being built for a family in need.

In the meantime here's some info that might be useful:
due to the Coronavirus and the impact on travel, the trip for May 2020 has been cancelled.
We are in discussion with our friends in South Africa to run the trip in October 202. We hope to confirm new arrangements by July 2020.
We welcome team members for one or two weeks. Please contact us for travel details, we try to arrive and depart on the same day.
Accommodation is basic, but adequate. Bed linen and towels provided.
Ground fees to be confirmed.
We arrange a group insurance policy through a UK broker which offers cover for construction work, it usually works out around £30 per week (recommended).
You'll need to fund your own travel to Johanesburg and then on to White River (shuttle bus 3 hours or domestic flight 40 minutes).
We will arrange a couple of socials while we're there, so a little spending money is advised.
Please contact us for more details. You must have some more questions...!
